Is it any wonder why relationship commitments sometimes scare us?
We spend so much more time and energy on school and have to deal with so much more competition in our daily lives… that when a relationship opportunity does finally arise, switching gears is that much more difficult.
I don’t think it’s that we’re becoming more selfish as human beings, I just think that by the very nature of increasingly secularized societies, we’re propelled to focus more on ourselves. I guess the opportunity costs only keep rising… but I hope utility can keep up, at least for evolution sake.
Then again, we’re going to drive ourselves extinct no matter what.
